40 Weeks

Yep, still pregnant — very much so.

Every time someone says "OMG you're still pregnant" I swear I want to grab a baseball bat and start hitting it against a wall.

I don't understand the physics of how my tiny body is able to carry the weight and size of my belly anymore. Although people say I'm carrying small, I feel like a whale at times.

If the first weeks of my pregnancy leave the challenge was to not think about work, I guess these last few weeks will be all about not thinking about labour. Every night I go to sleep thinking this might be the night. But then I wake up being as pregnant as the day before and sometimes even more so.

Baby girl is testing our patience. But I know it's all for the good in the end. She'll come when she's ready to.

And until then, I'm looking for new TV shows and movies to watch. Any suggestions?

39 Weeks

We’ve reached week 39 and so far there are no signs of labour approaching. I’m starting to think she’s real comfortable in there and has no intention of leaving any time soon.

This week was all about trying to relax whilst anticipating baby girl’s arrival. It meant doing things not too far from house so that we could leave in a minute’s notice; and also just staying at home a lot.

Everything for the baby is set for GO TIME. We’re just waiting for the start sign.

1. (Photo top) Us in anticipation. We fill our days by going out and enjoying quality time together. But really the only thing we can think about is baby girl’s arrival.

2. My most used items this week. I like taking the time to get dressed in the morning and trying out new beauty launches. It’s part of my morning ritual to start the day.

3. My mornings. I didn’t drink caffeine during the first and second trimester because I was still scared of anything happening. With the third tri, my cuppa has been my sense of peace every morning. We have the Nespresso Creatista Plus coffee machine at home, which has just been wonderful. You can find our editorial about it here.

4. Our breakfast this morning. We like to try out new places in the city but here there’s always something new to try.

5. Date night essentials. These are probably our last days or weeks together so we like to take the time to enjoy the peace and quiet for the moment.

6. Morning walks with K. This is Beatrixpark, a park near our old high school. It’s insane we were just kids back then and now have this grownup life together and a baby on the way.

7. Baby girl’s bassinet. This was the only bassinet we wanted for her. Love the round shape and it fits our minimal interior. Also, baby girl has lots of Miffy stuff! She’ll be born in the year of the Rabbit so we thought it only just that she has the most famous rabbit in the world!

The Waiting Game

Yep, still pregnant — 38,5 weeks and counting. Like a regular Morticia, I am stoically awaiting the arrival of my Wednesday. Meanwhile my closet of black knit dresses is ever expanding.

These last couple of weeks were quite a challenge. Having wrapped up work for my pregnancy leave weeks ago, I have since found it increasingly difficult to fill up my days. After one day of ‘relaxing’, I was up at 6am the next day making plans for after labour again. I couldn’t help it.

I get this from my mum by the way. Even after her retirement three years ago, you can still find her in Indonesian shops, helping out her friends by baking pastries and doing catering work. We’re wired this way I guess.

One think this new found ‘free time’ is giving me, is a trip down memory lane — a gift really. Memories from my past come up with every thought about the future. Thoughts about how my grandmother taking care of us has impacted us. How my father’s absence has shaped me. How my mother’s unrelinquishing efforts and love have brought us where we are today.

Instead of looking at the future, perhaps my plan for the coming weeks should be to look at the past instead. To perhaps be able to find a sense of peace in memories passed.
