Next: A new hotspot in Amsterdam's NDSM

The restaurant

In the heart of Amsterdam's creatively pulsating NDSM Wharf, a new culinary chapter unfolds at "Next." Born from the innovative minds behind the famed "Pllek," Next is not just a restaurant; it's a statement of cosmopolitan elegance and artistic flair. Nestled in an area known for its vibrant art and cultural scene, Next stands as a new place-to-be.

The food

Next's menu is a mix of international flavors and a flair for the extraordinary. Each dish marries classic techniques with contemporary tastes. The restaurant's commitment to a diverse, worldly palate promises a dining experience that is both familiar and unexpected. Signature dishes, artfully plated, are not just food; they are conversation starters, inviting diners to embark on a gastronomic journey.

Take the hamachi tiradito, seamlessly blending the delicate richness of Hamachi with the zesty brightness of orange and the luxurious depth of truffle, crowned with the subtle spice of Camarillo for an exquisite. Or the celeriac with crunchy walnuts and a subtle hint of pink pepper; a beautifully balanced delight. The lobster wonton is a luxurious fusion of East and West, filled with succulent lobster and paired with a rich and creamy bisque. Meanwhile the gnocchi, soft and pillowy, in a melange of earthy wild mushrooms and the tangy sweetness of apricot result in a dish that's comforting and satisfying in this autumn weather.

Our favorite though, is the black garlic short rib, tender and slow-cooked, with deep sweet-savory notes of black garlic; a dish we'd happily go back for.

The cocktails

Next is not just about food and ambience, but it's also a paradise for cocktail aficionados. Under the expert guidance of bar manager Riccardo Augustinus, Next's bar becomes a stage where the art of mixology is celebrated with passion and creativity. The bar, mirroring the restaurant's ethos, is a place for everyone - from the eccentric to the conventional, the rebels to the conformists.

We sample some of Next's signature cocktails. "Spiced Advice" is a captivating fusion of floral, spicy and citric notes, crafted with Beefeater gin, honey, jasmine flower, harissa, and malic acid. "Caprese" is a surprising blend of Woodford Reserve, basil, tomato, and milk punch. This cocktail is a savory delight, balancing the earthiness of basil and tomato with the smooth, rich texture of milk punch. "What a Melon?!" combines Brugal 1880/Villa Masa with melon, orange blossom, and grapefruit, all smoothed out with milk punch; a celebration of fruity flavors that's both bold and refreshing.

The interior and ambience

The interior of Next is an embodiment of its environment – urban, edgy, yet undeniably chic. The design pays homage to the industrial roots of the NDSM Wharf, while infusing modern elegance that speaks to the well-traveled clientele. The blend of raw materials and refined aesthetics creates an ambience that is both inviting and exhilarating. Large windows frame the astonishing views, offering a visual feast that complements the culinary one.

The concept

Next's concept is as much about the experience as it is about the cuisine. It is a place where international food meets creative mixology, set against a backdrop of breathtaking views. The restaurant offers not just a meal, but an immersive experience – a place where each visit tells a different story, a testament to the dynamic spirit of Amsterdam's Noord. This narrative is further enriched by the ever-evolving cocktail menu, each drink a masterpiece of flavors and presentation.
